Analysis of power–accuracy trade‐off in digital signal processing applications using low‐power approximate adders

In recent years, approximate circuit design targeting the error-tolerant applications has gained significance. this study, authors propose a metric that ranks stand-alone adder in terms of power savings obtained for given mean error distance/mean square (MSE). The demonstrate ranking adders can be used contain trees and registers. also have accurate multipliers interspersed with adders, find certain types approximations result more power-efficient implementations multipliers. Besides savings, other metrics interest are noise floor filtering compression achieved peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) image applications. show same overall MSE, there is trade-off between error. This makes it possible to classify these based on whether they an increased or MSE. Furthermore, discuss effect using discrete cosine transform block meet reduced PSNR requirements, levels trade-offs involved process.
